As of September 2022, all Flowers and Bumblebees from the Greenhouse edition of Pollen Mobile will use Botanist, which is a new tool that makes it easy to setup your hardware, check on its health, and receive your NFT.
Set up Your Flower with Botanist
- Take your Flower to its final installation location. You should make sure you have power and internet available at your site. Please refer to the appropriate product guide for your specific setup.
- Scan the QR code on your device to go the Botanist
- Connect your Flower to power and internet. If setting up a Bumblebee, plug the device in using a USB-C cable.
For Flowers, once the Botanist detects your radio has been plugged in and connected, it will run through a series of checks to confirm whether your Flower is online and broadcasting Pollen.
Botanist will check for the following things:
- GPS Live
Your Flower's location has been found. If your GPS has not been found, please move your Flower to a different location with a clear line of sight to the sky, unobstructed by foliage, buildings, etc. - IEPS Online
Your network is secure. Internet Egress Privacy Service (IEPS) is a Pollen service that encrypts communications and moves the Internet Egress Point from your ISP, preventing any actor from intercepting data or running network data analyses. If IEPS is not online, please submit a support ticket to support.pollenmobile.io. - Connected to Pollen
Your Flower is connected to the Pollen Mobile network. If not, please submit a support ticket to support.pollenmobile.io. - Broadcasting
Your Flower is broadcasting the Pollen Mobile network. If not broadcasting, please check your internet backhaul, check the health of your ethernet cables, or power cycle your device. - SAS Status
In order for your Flower to broadcast, it will need a grant from the SAS. SAS Status refers to the status of your antennas' grant with the SAS. There are several statuses that your grant can have, from Pending to Authorized. Go to "How do I register my Flower with the SAS?" for more information for completing this critical step. Failure to register with the SAS will result in your Flower being taken offline.
Receiving Your NFT with Botanist
Flower NFT
If your Flower successfully passes all the checks in the Botanist, click on "Receive Your NFT" and enter in the wallet address you used when purchasing your hardware.
Bumblebee NFT
Click on "Receive Your NFT" and enter in the wallet address you used when purchasing your hardware.
YOU MUST RECEIVE YOUR NFT TO THE SAME WALLET ADDRESS YOU USED WHEN PURCHASING THE DEVICE. Your NFT will be sent to this address within 48 hours of completing the activation process, and once distributed, the QR code on your hardware will change to route to the NFT on SolScan.
Checking your Flower's Health
As of November 15th, you can now use Botanist to check the health of all the devices associated with a given wallet. To get started, go to https://botanist.pollenmobile.io/ and connect to your Phantom wallet in order to lookup all of your hardware.
--> At this time, Botanist only supports an integration with Phantom.
Botanist FAQs
How do I access the Botanist for my hardware?
Scan the QR code on your device. If it has not yet been setup or the NFT not yet claimed, it will route you to the Botanist.
Why do I need to use the same wallet address I used during purchase?
This is how we know you are the intended owner of the Flower or Bumblebee in question. If you want to give your hardware to someone else, simply tell them the public wallet address you used when purchasing so they can enter it when going through the Botanist.
What happens to the QR code once I claim my NFT?
The QR code on your device will transform from a link to the Botanist to the SolScan page for your device's NFT once you've successfully completed setup.
Can I use the Botanist more than once?
Right now, the Botanist only works when setting up your hardware for the first time. We are moving on a fast follow with the ability to lookup any device and run through the Botanist again.
Do all devices need to use Botanist or can I set things up the original way?
For all devices shipping in September 2022, starting with the Moso Flower and Moso Bonzai, the Botanist is required for initial set up in order to claim your NFT. Once your NFT has been claimed, you do not need to use the Botanist to set up your Flower—say in the event you are changing its location or or ownership.
For hardware that is not on Greenhouse and that has shipped prior to September 2022, you will not be required to go through Botanist at this time.
Which hardware is using Botanist right now?
Moso Bonzai
Moso Flower
August 2022 Moso Drop Bumblebees
When will Botanist be available for other Flowers?
Very soon! As of September 2022, Botanist is available for MosoLabs Flowers and will be the primary onboarding tool for upcoming drops. We anticipate that all Flowers will be able to access Botanist to troubleshoot their status by the end of the year.
