The Honeybee App is meant to be used with a Honeybee eSIM (not for use with Hummingbird eSIMs), and lets users 'drop Pollen' whenever the app is open and your phone is not currently receiving Pollen coverage. This helps guide the community to deploy Pollen Flowers (what we call our mini cell towers) where coverage is most needed, and also earns the Honeybee user PollenCoin.
Dropped Pollen accumulates in areas (measured in Hexes) that don’t have Pollen coverage, and the first Flower to provide coverage to new Hexes for 30 consecutive days will earn all of the PollenCoin that has accumulated from the Drops.
What does a Honeybee do?
Using the map, Honeybees travel around the world and connect to Flowers, or drop Pollen in areas where there is no coverage. These Honeybees then share critical network data with Pollen Opco to help the network grow.
In the future we'll be adding even more features to the Honeybee app to make it even more fun.
Can I use the Honeybee outside of the US?
Yes! While Pollen Flowers can only be deployed in the US currently (Pollen utilizes the Citizens Broadband Radio Service, a band of spectrum that the FCC made available to the public without requiring a license), the Honeybee App can be used anywhere in the world to Drop Pollen. This will help guide our future international deployments to countries and regions where users are reporting Pollen coverage is most needed!
How do I get started?
To get started, download the Honeybee app on the Apple App Store. You will be prompted to purchase and install a Honeybee eSIM. Please note that your device MUST support eSIMs, band 48 of the wireless LTE spectrum, and be carrier unlocked. At this time, we recommend iPhone 11 or newer devices (including iPhone SE 2nd generation and newer).
Why do I need to buy an eSIM?
The eSIM is what allows your phone to connect to the Pollen Mobile network when its near a Flower (what we call small cell radios). Without an eSIM, your phone won't be able to connect to the network.
What if there are no Flowers in my area?
The Honeybee App lets users “drop Pollen” whenever the app is open and your phone is not currently receiving Pollen coverage. This helps guide the community to deploy Pollen Flowers where they are most needed.
How much PCN will I earn as a Honeybee?
Honeybees earn 1 Pollen Incentive Credit (PIC) for each Flower they attach too. They also earn 0.1 PICs her hex (up to 100 hexes per day) for Pollen drops. The amount of PCN earned is calculated at the end of each day. Click here to learn more about Pollen's tokenomics
I have an idea or feedback. Where do I submit it?
We'd love to hear it! Join us on Discord and start chatting with our developers and community to get involved with Pollen.
